Only if it fired something the target was allergic to. There are dozens of functioning models around and they're essentially proof-of-concept. I've seen the ballistics and none of them are very powerful. Throwing rocks is far more dangerous.

They had some video up of them shooting bottles and cans with it, but they seem to of run out of bandwidth. It has to be at least as powerful as a BB gun or .22 rifle.

It can only break certain bottles and penetrate tin cans. It can't break a champagne bottle, for example.
You can fire every 25 seconds.

The author is currently working on another project which will include a longer barrel and multiple stages of accelerating coils.
