Bad Workman Ship (VGA Silencer) by Arctic Cooling

Ok, I just received one of the VGA Silencer's by Arctic Cooling and the holes for the clip are not threaded. I checked reviews of the product online and they were all threaded. I even tried to get the screw in mine, and it broke off in it. Then my original Radeon 9800 HSF doesn?t fit snuggly anymore since I took it off to install the VGA Silencer, so now it overheats (Typing this on my laptop). This happen to anyone else? It's a dutch company, so what do I do? Thanks -Will

Mine 1
Mine 2 <-- See the threads there are what I had to do manually using a lot of force to screw it in. Then you can see the shiney un-threaded part.
How its suppose to be <- How its suppose to be threaded all the way down.

if you have the equipment just tap the hole the rest of the way.
If not maybe you can use a smaller screw and just use a nut on the other side of the board. I dont know if this is possible or not but its just a suggestion.

If you cant do those two then just send it back to where ever you got it from and demand a new one.

If that's the case, then they messed up. Either they didn't tap the hole, or sent you coarse threads for a fine threaded tap. Or any one of a variety of issues. On the other hand, what were you thinking by tightening them so hard that one broke? Chalk that up to experience I guess.

Either way, looks like they did mess up. I agree with sending it back for another.

It's (normally) a fine product. I like it so much I sold my 5900 for a Radeon just so I could use it.

Well I was gonna suggest getting a tap, but since you foreced that screw in that hole and broke it off, chances are it's gonna be hell getting it out without damaging the aluminum block. Return it.
