Bad time to buy a Kindle? New one on it's way?

I was thinking of buying a WiFi one for me and a 3G one for my GF.

BUT... This comment got me thinking what if a new one is on its way? Should I wait?

am i the only one who finds it disconcerting that multiple online payment portals are refusing to transfer funds to wikileaks?

i wonder what could have convinced these businesses that are in business to turn a profit to suddenly decide that wikileaks no longer deserves donations? could it be some government pressure?

Nope. In fact, the only thing I'm mad about at Amazon is that the international Kindle is on backorder for 7-8 weeks last I checked. So now I will have to wait a while before I can send them more buckets of money.

Cry some more.

New version is likely coming soon, then. This has happened prior to every new model release.

the current one hasnt been available for that long even though they announced it a while ago. but theyre going to have to come out with a color soon because of the nook with color. i would say go ahead and buy it because they are so cheap anyway

The current kindle was released less than 6 months ago. I can't imagine them replacing it in the next 6 months.

Amazon has been releasing new Kindles roughly every year and a half. The most recent Kindle just came out at the end of August - I highly doubt there will be a new one soon. Maybe for next Christmas season.

If you wait for the one, you do realize there will be anothe after that one right? Get the current one and if a better one comes out sell the olderone here at Anandtech to help pay for it. In the meantime enjoy what you have

Just get the most recent kindle. My mother has one and I was pretty impressed. A friend gave me an old Sony eReader (PRS-505) and that thing seemed so ancient and clunky compared to the new kindle (the $140 edition one). The kindle is so cheap now you can buy a new one when i comes out and not be blowing so much money.

Well i picked mine up tuesday and damn this thing is slick...

The funny part is that I'm visiting my parents and I'm sleeping in my childhood bed staying up and reading like I did when I was young.

If your objective is reading books, don't wait for color (expensive!). Real books are B&W and eInk is perfect. If your bent is comic books and girlie mags, - wait for color.
