Is this most likely an alternator or just a battery problem? The thing is that I ran into something similar two months ago and Walmart tested it and said that the battery was dead (which was really annoying because that battery was pretty new), and I therefore bought a battery at Walmart.

Before you jump on me with the Walmart battery, please remember that it was at 7am in the morning and no other shops were open and I had no choice.

Fast forward two months now...the car is doing the same thing. Should I take the car back to Walmart and have them replace the battery, or is that not going to help at all?

I doubt I can get a refund now...stupid me. Will only buy Motorcraft batteries from now on.

Well, what I'm worried is that if it's a bad alternator, which will run $300-$400 according to a local Ford dealership. It's just very annoying that I've already spent nearly $2000 on the car these few months while it's worth probably nothing more than $4000.

So any ideas? I do have 3-year replacement warranty on the Walmart battery.

Open the hood on a damp dark morning and you will actually be able to see if you have bad plug wires. You'll see sparks jumping from the wires themselves to anywhere they can find a ground.

Darkness is the key along with a cold engine. Warmed up, it may have burned off the dampness that is making the problem worse.

Plug wires are the first thing that came into my mind too.
