Hi everyone, I am having an extremely annoying problem....for some reason, my PC is skipping terribly when I play mp3s, and then will lock up so the mouse won't move smoothly when this happens. It is just slow to respond sometimes and the skipping is *terrible*. I have the following setup:

Duron 700
256MB CL3
20GB 7200 RPM
Voodoo 4 -
FIC AZ11 Socket A
CDRW

I don't think my system power is the issue...

Can anyone help me? Are there any diag I can run to see what might be wrong?? Thanks in advance!!!!!!!!

What OS are you running? And do you have a lot of programs running in the background and in your Systray?

I am running 98SE, (I know that may be the problem in itself 🙂) - not too many apps running, only like 6 or so - AIM, Napster, PWS, Task Scheduler...

Thats wierd... Winamp (if you use winamp) is definetely a memory hog, but in 98 it shouldn't matter if you have 256MB... try closing down your programs 1 by 1 to maybe find out if a program you are running is giving it a hard time...

Cool -hmm now that I think about it - since I installed Norton 2K, I have been seeing it more - anyone have any problems with Norton 2K and 98???

is the hard drive in active use when that happens? something may have been pushed out of the main memory and into virtual memory. download Memturbo from cnet.com and scrub your memory to see if that fixes the problem 🙂
