Hi All,

I've got a couple of laptop hard drives that I can fdisk and then they get a ways into the format process and it comes
up with the "reclaiming allocation units" and slows down and finally will say "format terminated" The bad spots are 12%
into the drives so it's not like I can make a 98% partition and let the other 2% bad go....

Is there anything that I can do to be able to get the drives formatted? I've got spinrite but it won't touch the drives
probably because they aren't formatted!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.....

Jim

I used a program to "erase" or it may be what they call a "low level format" which writes 0's to the entire drive and you have to come back and fdisk it again and it didn't make any difference either in the formatting process. I had thought the drives were trash but I hated to throw them away without asking questions. They are only 2.1gb but they would have worked great in an older laptop.....🙂

Thanks!
Jim
