Hi, I've got a bad sector(s) on my ThinkPad hard drive. Scandisk was never able to fix the problem. I did a format thinking this might help, but the format stops somewhere in the middle when it gets to the bad sector on the Hard drive. I downloaded a "Drive Fitness" utility from IBM to check the hard drive. It too found the bad sectors and told me to run their Erase Disk utility to fix the problem. Erase Disk stopped in the middle with the message Failed LBA 61341. So what's going on here? Is there anything I can do or is my entire HD dead? I've got an email in to IBM support, but haven't heard anything yet.

Thanks,

Ctown,
Most likely your HD needs to be replaced. You might try to low-level format as a last resort. I don't know if "Drive Fitness" from IBM is a low-level utility or not. Maxtor's website has a low-level utility somewhere that works with alot of drives.
