Uhhh.connected my laptop directly to cable modem(ethernet cable)works perfectly.Internet has been acting up the last past 3 weeks.I updated the firmwire of the router.both my laptop and desktop use wireless adapters and internet goes off constantly.packet activity is also akward:sometimes i recieve more than get, sometimes i get more than i recieve.internet singal and speed fluctuates too.Router is only 15 feet away(next room)

Are these signs of a bad router?I've been using the same Linksys WRT54G for over 3 years.

3 years? Open it up for close inspection. Recap as necessary.

Routers get warm and should be placed where air can get to them.

I periodically do clean it since it sits on the shelf collecting dust.I disconnect the wires(than reconnect),reset the router, and wipe it clean. It really does bug.

Ummm thats why I asked you guys...I dont know if its broken or what.It works sometimes and is way unstable for me.Would be better if I just add a cable line in my office, get a router(non Wifi),and ethernet cables, since Wifi isnt necessary for the desktop, and I rarely move my laptop either.
