Bad ram

In a new build, it ran fine for a few days, then this morning had the blue screen of death. Now, the system will no longer boot (reaches the windows startup screen then restarts). I ran memtest86 and the memory failed every test, so it definitely appears that's where the problem lies. I just wanted to check if there's a chance that the problem lies with the motherboard memory channels or anything else, or if it is definitely a ram problem. I guess my question is if there are any other things that can cause memtest to fail other than bad ram. Thanks.

Have you tried testing RAM you know is good with memtest? Or, if you have more than one stick, have you tried testing them individually?

Unfortunately, it is just a single stick. This is a lab computer, so I've checked around a little, and if there's a possibility that it is something other than the ram I'll try a little harder to find a known good stick to test. It is interesting, if I let the computer sit off for a little bit, I can get it to boot into windows and it appears to work fine, but memtest still fails each time. I'll see if I can find another stick to test then. Thanks.

Could be a bad memory slot, which is a bad mobo, happened to me.

If possible test the ram in a diferent slot.
Mobo may require that a single stick of Ram be placed in a certain slot for the mobo to boot.

Yeah, I checked both slots, and the same in each. I guess in case it helps, further specs are biostar P4M890-M7 PCI-E E6300 (stock speed), 1gb 533 corsair value ram, thermaltake tr2-430W psu.
