BAD Processor?

I've started a new post since the boot problem seems to more that just that. (Originally listed under "Booting from IDE HD")

Here's the Hardware I just bought:

Abit IP35 E Mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz LGA 775 Processor
2 GB of OCZ DD2 800 (PC2 6400)
320 GB SATA HD
40 GB IDE HD (Boot drive)
XP (SP2)
ASUS PCI E video (don't remember model)

I worked with the machine some more last night and this is what I now see.
I've configured the Boot Drive as the master on the IDE and my CD as the slave (which I had tried before). When I turn on the machine it does it's double start thing (like I've read about here on the forum) but then, about half the time I get the ABIT logo screen and the machine just freezes. This is especially true if I have made any changes in the BIOS and the machine is rebooting. The times when it doesn't freeze I see the following during the POST screen. The memory appears to test OK.. It says C1E BIOS supported (which I think is normal). It then says EM64T CPU. and then ------- CPU IS UNWORABLE OR HAS BEEN CHANGED .. PLEASE RECHECK - CPU SOFTMENU.

It says this even though the Softmenu appears to be correct. I've got a Intel 2.2 GHz Dual Core processor (Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz LGA 775 Processor). Even with the above error --- when I've tried to have it boot from either the HD or the CD (using the XP install disk), it begins to load a few files and then just restarts or hangs up.

Based on the error described above I now think I either have a bad processor or a bad Mobo (any guesses?). I've tried reseating the processor on the socket and it made no difference.

HELP -- any suggestions. I bought all of this from Newegg.

Thanks,

the CPU is unworkable or has been changed message is normal on an abit with a new CPU or after a clearCMOS.

What voltage have you set for your OCZ RAM?

I figured that CMOS changes might trigger the "Unworkable CPU" message. The problem is, I get this EVERYTIME I start the unit, whether I have changed anything or not.

I believe the voltage for the memory is at the default which I believe is 1.8V. Does this memory require a higher voltage. I bought it with the Mobo board as a packaged deal.

Thanks for your help.

Try the optimised defaults setting.

If you can give me the exact model no. of the RAM I can check but most likely it needs ~2.0V for it's rated speed/timings.
You might have to drop down to using 1 DIMM to get into the BIOS to change the DRAM voltage.
