Bad probe or really good BIOS?

I've been using the preacher BIOS on an NF7-S for a while but decided to try TicTac's as among other features, the SATA is improved with some drives. After flashing and booting back into windows, MBM5 reports the CPU at 40, which is normal, except it didn't drop down to 31 after a few minutes, which is abnormal. For testing I flashed Abit's latest, which stayed at a constant 38. Wondering if the ambient temperature rose drastically without my knowledge, I re-flashed preacher, and it cooled to 31 after idling for a few minutes like usual.

What is up with that? I ask because I would like to know if preacher is reporting incorrect temps, or if something in its tweaks could be the cause.

Thanks.

My gut feeling would be that the BIOS is reporting incorrectly. The only way to be "sure" would be to get down there with a thermometer.

That may be true. I did some more testing and while using Abit's, temperatures increase only by 3 degrees under load, whereas when using one of the other two it increases by at least 10. What that proves I don't know.

Oh well, I'll stick with the Abit bios. It allows me to use a lower voltage for the same overclock than the other "hardcore overclockers" modified versions.
