Bad pixel on my laptop's lcd

I just noticed 1 pixel on my laptop screen that's always the same color. Is it permanently fubar'ed? Does this mean more bad pixels are to come?

I'm afarid it's going to be like that permanently 🙂
If the color is anything but black than it's called stuck pixel. The only way to make it less visible is using a laser to shut of the pixel, since dead pixel is usually less visible than stuck pixel.

You will probably not going to have anymore bad pixels than the one that you have now. With old generation LCD, it's possible though for you to get a bad pixel overtime.

sounds like a dead pixel... not good for reselling, but if it doesn't bother you, than don't worry; 1 dead pixel doesn't necessarily mean more will follow

Because you see color, technically you do not have a bad "pixel" you have a bad sub-pixel. Three sub pixels, one red, one green and one blue make up a "pixel". BTW I assume your display is 1024 x 768 based on the 786432 number. To get the total sub-pixels on your LCD you need to times this number by three. If it makes you feel any better, your LCD at 1024 x 768 has one bad sub-pixel out of a total of 2,359,296 sub-pixels.

There have been many threads about bad pixels on LCD's, I'm trying to give you an understanding of how difficult it is to manufacture a perfect LCD panel. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks, I feel a little better about my bad pixel now. I'll just have to talk to him and spend a little more time with him so he doesn't feel left out.

Wasn't there a way to "rub" out bad pixels by massaging 🙂o) the bad pixel? Or was that specific to a type of LCD display?

Just try tapping on the stuck pixel with the eraser end of a pencil every now and then for about a week and see if that helps. It helped in my case but if you so happen to create a whole cluster of dead/stuck pixels instead, you can at least send it in for warranty now since clusters of bad pixels are usually covered while a single one would not be.
