Bad performance

Hello, Im new to the forums. I came because Im having some performance issues with my computer.
PC Stats:
-ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 SLi Socket 939 Motherboard
-eVGA 7800GT @ 445Mhz w/ ForceWare 82.12 Driver
-AMD X2-4200 @ 2.2Ghz
-1024MB (2x 512)Corsair PC3200
-Seagate 200GB SATA HDD
-Maxtor 80GB SATA HDD
-Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2
-Antec SmartPower 500Watt
-DVD Drive

My problem, is that in CS:Source, I get around 70 FPS with everything on High @ 1024x768. I was thinking I should be getting more than this, because others with the same card and slower components, say they are getting 100+. I tried lowering the settings, and I just get even LESS FPS. Im thinking that this might be a problem with my graphics card because when I boot up, I normally get an error on the LCD on my Motherbaord "2.5." (If anyone has an AN8 MB they will know) but the monitor wont respond. So I have to hit the reset button on my computer to get it to boot up.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
 
Yes, I used to have like one of the Beta Drivers, and something was acting wierd with that. I dont remember why I switched but I did. Anyone know of drivers that forsure work great?
 
This sounds more like a game setting/driver cleaning issue than anything.

1) Find out which drivers are best for that game & your card
2) Uninstall your current drivers with drivercleaner
3) (re)Install the drivers you need and try it out.
4) If you're getting an error code go to ABiT's forums & ask the guys in the Fatal1ty section, they are EXTREMELY NICE & HELPFUL.
 
Put the Video Card into the other PCI-E slot... this happened to me and I put it into the second PCI-E slot and it worked.
 
i think he means just try it for compatibility issues..

make SURE you have vsync off, seeing as your FPS would be capped at the refresh rate your monitor supports
 
I can give you a config that wil help your FPS but also CSS is a very glitchy game, for a while I was unable to play before they released yet another patch and I had a very similar setup to you.

I have read this whole thread and let me say....

Quite a few people post with gaming issues only to find that the did not hook up the correct power source to the video card...aka power directly from the PSU not the mobo......so no it was actually a honest question.

Seeing as how you only have 7 posts and are only posting becuase you are having issues all those bases need to be touched in order to try to help you out!!

I for one do not have your card but I am an avid gamer playing mainly quake4 and the Unreal series yet I do also play counter strike....

with that said...
Eveb with the better cards most hard core....im not talking people who game say an hour or 2 a night...
I am talking people who live and breath nothing but gaming...

These people tend to have such things as VSync aand antialiasing and other things ..iether disabled ot turned off.....
In ordfer to maximize there gaming experience...
when your hard core it has nothing to do with how nice the graphics look or whether you can see dynamic lighting or a shadow...
Its all about seeing your oponent before they see you....nothing more nothing less...

You should try various different drivers....sometimes the latest and greatest drivers are not what works best for your particular set up...
There is no easy fix besides trial and error which will take some time...

You also might try to google your issue and see if google will direct to a better driver or better setting for your CS gaming....

Unlike Quake4 and other games your FPS I believe are not capped which is a good thing...

Thanks for the response 🙂 Jedi. Yes, as far as I know I have my power hooked up from the PSU to the Card directly. Is there a way to make sure that this is actually working?
