Looks like no more Sega Sports games on the cube.

After announcing slumping financial results, Sega of Japan announces that it won't continue to develop sports games for all consoles.

Earlier today in Japan, Sega released its financial results for the last six months, which showed that its operating profit was down 20 percent from the previous year, with revenue down 3 percent. The company still posted a net profit of 1.01 billion yen (about $8 million). Sega said it has been harder than expected to become a cross-platform publisher, and that its initial plans to transition from its hardware-based model were overly optimistic.
A Dow Jones report said that Sega is focusing on improving profits in its "loss-making" sports game operations in the US, which Sega has had big hopes for. While Sega doesn't plan to back down from its fierce competition with Electronic Arts on other platforms, it will completely halt GameCube sports game development as of next year.

Doesn't bother me. I'm an EA man. I've put in more time on Madden 2002 on my Cube than every other game I've ever owned for a console combined.

From Gamespot:While Sega doesn't plan to back down from its fierce competition with Electronic Arts on other platforms, it will completely halt GameCube sports game development as of next year.
From Avault:Sega plans to completely halt developing such software on its own for Gamecube starting next year. However, the game maker said it will continue competing in the U.S. against arch-rival Electronic Arts.

Sports game.

They made super monkey ball so I'll give sega credit.

Aside from that, only Genesis was good, minus all its crappy add-ons.

Nobody buys a GC for sports games anyway. And if they do, they'll just have to stick to EA I guess.

Thank you. That's all I ask. :) My apologies for the BS remark - it was more a reaction to Sega lowering support to the GameCube.

Well this sucks for just about everyone involved. Sega has made some great games in the past.

Damn, first MS buys Rare from Nintendo, then Sega stops working for Nintendo but still works for XBox... hm...

(actually is glad he has an XBox for the first time in almost a year)
