REQ: How to unlock a 1.4 T-bird??
I got a new 1.4 and unfortunatly it came clocklocked. I've read about bridging the gap between the L1 transistors with anything from a pencil to solder. I've read that pencil led will eventually come off and compound or solder will make it permanent. Currently I can only get my machine to 140mhz and since I have good cooling and power I hate to stop there. I'm a little bit nervous about messing with the transistors but if there is a lot of success I'd like to give it a try.

Any thoughts on this? Tried and true procedures? Thanks

AsusA7M266
1.4 Anyja
Hercules Geforce 3
512 Crucial PC2100 DDR
Enermax 451W pwr supply
M462 heatsink w/Delta fan
41C max temp @140mhzFSB Default 10.5 multiplier

I hope this is not true and AMD is now locking there chips again

Mine came unlocked, here is is the code.

A1400AMS3C
AYHJA0123APCW
Y6440630148

Right now its running at 1533 with default voltage (1.75)

Its being watercooled by the AquaStealth II my max temp under full load (RC5) is 45C but right now its at 42C.

Oh yeah before I forget, Im using the temp readings from the probe that I mounted right next to the core. The probe that is under the cpu is saying 48C which isnt right..

A few people here and there got locked 1.2s, 1.3s, and 1.33s too. It seems AMD's little laser decides to randomly work on a few chips. Some guy in Germany with nothing better to do I guess.

From what I've read, most 1.4s are unlocked.

Just use the rear window defogger stuff you can clean it off if you want to.

I can tell you for a fact that the 200FSB "B" variety of the 1.4 is locked, but can be unlocked just like any other locked chip.

For unlocking, I use the pencil method, and it seems to be holding up pretty well, and the traces have been there for several months now.

My 1.4 Ghz / 266 FSB T-Bird which came in yesterday is locked, so yes, the rumors are true.

Locked 1.4 'birds? Man... that stinks. I guess I was lucky with mine being unlocked. I unlocked my 1 gig "B" chip with a #2 pencil. I couldn't get the car window defroster deal to work. Hands shook to much..lol.

L1 bridges no connected = locked

Solution, connect them to make it unlocked. :)

Use the pencil trick for now and see how high it gets. Then use a more perm solution later.

I saw this at another website forum..I have no first hand experience...The interesting thing was the rumor said the 200fsb version was locked and not the 266...

My 1400-C from icompz came with the L1 bridges closed but the only multipliers I could use were the default 10.5 and 11.0. Entering 11.5 or higher had absolutely no effect. It is/was a week 20 "Y" chip. I never got to try the Loctite defogger over the top of the L1 bridges because my stupidity killed the processor rather quickly.

Wonder why if L1 bridges are unlocked why you could only use 10.5 and 11x multiplier...????
