Bad Motherboard?

Hello, I've been browsing this forum for a while, but am finally in need some of help!

I have an older nForce4 a939 board with a 3800+.

On my last reformat (2 years ago or so) I had severe issues getting a fresh install of XP on the device. The machine would freeze constantly and at different points during the install. I was finally able to get it up and running with an un-attended, pre-configured XP install. Once the OS was installed the machine ran beautifully with no hiccups at all.

After setting up another PC as a HTPC (openelec/XMBC) I decided to re-purpose this machine for the same. Of course I'm having issues again when trying to get this thing to boot from anything other than a HDD.

Currently, I'm trying to have the machine boot from a USB flash; I have the BIOS set to boot from all USB types, and there is a selection referencing the ability to boot from other devices which is also enabled. No luck, the USB drive doesn't appear at all in any of the boot option menus, though it does look like the board sees it when it's detecting drives.

I am able to partially boot if I use a third party boot manager (plop), but the machine instantly locks up while it's trying to boot from the drive.

BIOS are up-to-date, but haven't re-flashed or anything.

Looking for any suggestions or if you think this board has something seriously wrong that isn't worth fixing.

Thanks all!

Just stick the Windows CD in boot from it and do a repair install. That should fix abnormalities etc.. gl
