bad motherboard, or PSU?

I just installed a new motherboard and everything was running fine, but I noticed that my HDD activity LED was not working. I went ahead and tried reversing the cable. I then got a switched the PSU back on and got a little "Blurb" of power (like it was going to turn on without pressing the power button), and it went off. I tried pressing the power button and nothing. I then tried switching the PSU off and On and the same little "blurb" and then nothing. I then tried putting the HDD LED back the way it was and the same thing. Then I tried unplugging everything and plugging it back and nothing. I then tried reinstalling the motherboard all over again, but this time, not even a "blurb". The Power LED started flashing or blinking, but nothing would happen.

Did I fry something? Is it the MoBo at fault, or the PSU? If someone has had a similar experience, then you could save me some trouble of trying to pull out a PSU from a different computer, or pulling this one to try on that computer.

Thanks.

It may be your switch. You can turn your computer on by shorting the two wires the switch usually does. Try and see if that works

What cable did you reverse exactly?

The HDD LED activity wire/cable. It has a green and a white wire. Is the white ground, or the other? I think I had it to where the white one was Grounded and the Green one was not, and then tried switching it around.

hmm, i read about shorting the power switch on the computer case, by using a flat head screw driver, and "completing" the charge.

how exactly would one do this? removing the bezel?

hmmmm ( sorry, i can't help but mock that everyone is starting their sentences with hmmm)

You short power on the mobo. It has nothng to do with the bezel

haha... no kidding! (hmmm)

anyways, try that. Seems odd that it would just kill something in the computer. PSU is ok, i think. Thw worst might be to rma the mobo. But try the psu in a diff. system if you can, or try booting without the hard drive..see if the bios comes up? If it does, then something is wrong with ur LED on the mobo, and other stuff is fine.

I think you are in the best position to diagnose this, just keep trying different things you can...and keep ruling out components that you figure out to be working fine.

hmmm... (hehehe)

It turns out that my PSU is fine. I tried pretty much everything with the Motherboard and no worky. Oh well. I guess I need to RMA it. I just bought it used from someone just last week too, and it ran fine for a few days. 🙁

...I just went ahead and bought the new DFI motherboard from Newegg. I'll RMA this board to MSI and sell it when I get it back.
