I built my PC about 18 months ago. When I tried to boot it today, it failed. The lights come on/fans start for a couple of seconds and then it shutdowns. I removed the power cable from one of my CDROM, and then it booted successfully and is working fine for more than 2 hours. I also ran CPUBurn utility for 15-20 minutes and it did not crash. So what could be wrong with it, power supply, motherboard or some thing else. Its not my CDROM as I can turn it on by removing power cable from either one of the CDROMS. Here are the specs:

Epox 8K7A+
AthlonXP 2000+ (Palamino)
Crucial 256 MB - 2 sticks
Seagate Barracuda ATA IV 40 GB
Toshiba 16x DVDROM
ASUS 2410A CDRW
ATI Radeon 32 MB DDR
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Intel 10/100 Pro Network card
Texas Instruments based Firewire card
NEC based USB2 card
Actiontec 56K PCI modem

Thanks,
Rana

Forgot about the power supply, it is 350W and 3.5v/5v has combined out of 220W.

I would say your power supply is going bad. Try a another one, borrow from a friend or another computer.
