Bad Luck or problem lies between keyboard and chair?

Second Duron in a row bought from FS/FT that turned up DOA. My system wouldnt even post with them in, but when i threw my underclocked 1.4 tbird athlon back in, system worked fine. how can a board (the one in question being a gigabyte ga-7zx) support a top end thunderbird, but not a duron. *sighs* I guess i just had bad luck in my deals.

fsb jumpers?

try resetting the cmos/bios after you put the duron in - there should be a jumper to revert it back to default level... also check for bios updates

set at 100. my 1.4 athlon runs at 1050 mhz...durons should be 100 as well. that was the whole point of me getting one, so i could run my tbird in another rig at full speed.

yeah, except...my bios IS at default everything already.

do u have another board to test that duron in? that would be the easiest way to verify if it is really dead.

Yeah, my secondary board is an MSI K7T Turbo LE... I will attribute it to bad luck, but I'm going to stop wasting my time and the people who traded with me's time and just pick up a retail one from newegg this time
