I've been using a radeon 9800XT on my desktop with DVI connection to a Acer 20" lcd. Image quality was very nice!

Just bought a laptop with a intel 945 gm/gu graphic chipset. when outputting the video signal via vga connector to that same Acer monitor, the image quality is horrible. Resolution and color depth are set to be the same, but the picture is washed out, poor colors, fuzzy... looks awful.

Is this just because of the signal degradation of an analog connection, or could it be the driver or the laptop chipset not outputting good IQ?

Intel onboard graphics just suck for quality. I've got 865G onboard graphics here on my work computer and I can't go above 1024x768 without the image becoming all shaky (verified on 3 monitors).
