Ouch! Being the super-intelligent person that I am, I just stuck my finger in a Volcano 6cu+ 7000rpm cooler fan. I think a chunk of finger must be floating around in the case somewhere. ...put a nice little dent in the fan too.

Anyway, mostly just to make me feel less stupid, what is your worst computer related injury?

I heard some people have been killed by sticking a screw driver in the capacitor plates of the power supply with it unplugged. Kinda doubt it, but you can do that with the high voltage on an unplugged tv so maybe so.

Being an Electrical Engineer, that probably wouldn't happen. Sure, you can get a nice shock from a wall socket (I have a few times), you most likely won't die unless you have a pacemaker, in which case you won't use a computer, as it's high Frequencies will stop your pacemaker like a microwave. Thast last sentence was a joke, but let's just wait and see how many people actually reply to have that my data is wrong!

Anyways, no, they might get a shock, but 98% plus of screwdrivers have insultated handles to prevent such shocks. It is an old wives tale.

I am pretty sure that the capacitor retains quite a charge unplugged, that's why you always see the little warning stickers on them.

One time when I was sixteen, we had a medicine cabinet in our bathroom with a sliding mirror on the front and two electrical outlets on the front. One day, I was washing my face, then a pair of tweezers fell out of the cabinet. I picked them up out of the sink, and went to put them back. Since I had soap on my face, my eyes were partially closed, and I ended up sticking the tweezers RIGHT INTO ONE OF THE OUTLETS. The tweezers actaully MELTED and I got the nastiest shock of my life :Q My arm was tingling for like 4 days afterwards. Now THAT was stupid :)

As far as why... I was just bored. ...no, actually I was just moving some cables out of the way on a system I was working on while it was running (that was the stupid part) and WHACK!

No, I'm not a masochist and generally like to keep my fingers in one piece. :) Those are some sharp blades on those Volcano?s though.
