Bad harddrive? Virus or what?

My desktop recently starting clicking right after boot-up. It stops once windows starts to load.

The second weird thing, the desktop automatically types "oooooooooo" or "iiiiiiiii" over and over and my keyboard is unresponsive.

These two symptoms started together. I have no idea what is happening. I've re-installed multiple times and eventually i get the repeating characters....

 
I had the very same problem many years ago with a Windows 98 system. The graphics card was failing. Your milage may vary though.
