Bad Hard Drive?

I recently installed a second Maxtor 10GIG HD as a slave to the first one on the primary IDE channel. Whenever I try and copy large files onto that hard drive the computer freezes & says its unable to finish copying to the d: drive (the second hd). I scanned for bad sectors, but none were found .... what should I do?

is DMA on? are you overclocking the PCI bus? is it running in ATA 66 or 33 mode?
