Hey whats up out there. I need some help. I am working on my second system here. Its has the Asus A7N266-WM board with 256 Kingston, basic CD Rom, XP1600 and a 6.4 GB hard drive.

I know not the most impressive, but this will just be a file and music server. But anyways, when i turn on i get a Blue Screen which reads
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time that you have seen this stop error screen, restart.

It then goes on to tell me that I need to check for viruses, remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check to see if its configured. THen tell me to Run
CHKDSK/F to check for corruption, then restart.

Ive switched cables and used both IDE channels and messed around with the jumpers on the drive. Do I have a bad hard drive, do i just need to get a new one, or is this worth saving. There is nothing too important on there now, so getting a new one isnt really such a bad idea, (other than Im broke). But i dont want to get a new one if nothing is wrong with the one that i have. Please help!!?!?!??!?!?

If the harddrive your trying to boot, came out of another machine, with a differant motherboard chipset, your problem probably lies there.
I would suggest, putting the drive back in the machine it came from, and saving any useful data. After that, do a repair install or a fresh install.

Actually, I have already saved all the files that I really want to the main PC. How do I do a fresh install or repair install.

Yes the hard drive came from another board. I dont know what kind of board it was, but it came as part of the Packard Bell complete system (with a Cyrix as the processor..yuck..). I got it around '98 or so.

What operating system are you using?
If you have an original OS disk, make your cdrom the first boot device in the bios, and restart with the disk in the drive.

Can anyone help with this. I booted from CD Rom in the Bios with the XP Pro
i get

Boot from CD Rom
No Emulation

Press any key to boot from CD.

Then It takes me to the screen asking if I want to start in Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, bla bla bla.

Then it takes me back to the screen

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time that you have seen this stop error screen, restart.

It then goes on to tell me that I need to check for viruses, remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check to see if its configured. THen tell me to Run
CHKDSK/F to check for corruption, then restart. "

Please help, should i just get a new hard drive and load the OS on that. Or is there a way I can fix this hard drive corruption?

Use another hard drive to find out if it will load windows, this will 100% determine whether the drive is good or not.
