Hey all,
I have an acer aspire 5742G series laptop. Its about a year old now. Recently I started getting some major issues with overheating and graphic problems in 3d games ONLY when I am using the discrete GT540M. I have no problems using the integrated Intel Video to run some low level 3D programs, like League of Legends. I have sent the laptop back to Acer for repairs twice now and they have not been able to get the comp to "duplicate my problem" in their diagnostics and stress tests. If the techs would just play a damn game in the laptop they would see that it is broken. I have a sneaking suspicion that their diagnostics and stress test aren't activating the discrete card (due to Optimus drivers). So while the integrated is stable, the discrete is not showing itself in all its defective glory. I have no idea what to do with this thing if Acer refuses to take responsibility for the issue. Try to replace the GPU? Re-paste the GPU? Throw it off a cliff? I need some advice.
