Bad for TV to be on 24/7?

Is it bad to leave the tv on all the time? I figure it's better because the electron guns don't have to charge up each time, giving the tube longer life, but I might be wrong. LOL. However, doing so also seems to have lowered my power costs over the last two months. Saved $7 on the electric. Not sure if it's this or not...but it's still pretty neat. Haven't changed power usage at all. Before, the tv was turned off and on at least 30 times a day. Maybe that was the cause for the extra power, but then again, I don't know. I was told once that turning a tv on wastes more electricity than it takes to run it for 2 days straight, if there is no sound, but then again, my physics teacher in HS may have been pulling our legs.

Hmmmm.... for about $30-$40 you can buy a little thing from Radio Shack that you plug into the wall and it has an LCD display of the wattage being run through it after sticking an appliance in. Might be worth playing with if you have some extra cash and nothing else to do with it. ;)

I find that extremely hard to believe. But then again, i know nothing about it.

If we shut our TV off, it defaults to the tuner input. We just use it as a monitor and go through an RCA input so we just leave it on all the time.

We've done this for about 2 1/2 years and haven't had a problem and our electric bills aren't expensive at all.

Edit: I should also mention our TV is 15 years old.

Our tv is only on once a day... when my fiance gets home from work... until around the time she needs to go to bed... so no problems here. ;) Couch potato...

My runs from about 4 in the afternoon to 7AM the next day. This is a good question. The only problem I could think of would be burn in the screen....

I used to think the same, except after reasoning it out, it just doesn't make sense. When TV's turn on, they use electricity, and when they're off, they don't. The warming up of electron guns is minimal compared to heavy TV usage.

Besides that, you really shoudln't do that at all with RPTV's (i have one). Static image burn could easily crop up.

Also, I probably use my TV maybe about twice or three times a week for about 5 hours overall...

if you really want to know check how long a tv will last on a ups

turning it off and on vs continuously on

im sure you will discover turning it off and on consumes less power
