Bad Flash on DVD-ROM

Ok, here is the deal. My DVD-ROM drive in my computer is a Matshita(Panasonic) SR-8583. It started acting up, so i searched for new firmware. I found and download the lastest, put it on a CD and followed the instructions. The instructions said to turn off the computer when the A:/ prompt came up. After going through several processes, a message came up saying something like "Microcommand Synchronization complete. Please verify" After waiting a few secs, i hit enter, then the A:/ prompt came up. I turned off the computer and rebooted it. I went into Device manager and the drive was not there. Also the light on drive was flashing orange. I figure it did a bad flash. is there anyway to fix the flash. I have tried reflashing the firmware with the updated and also with the orginal (got them both off a website). Please any help would be great.

Well, i never could get it to download. I got C61F from Gateway's support website and then C53H from firmare.com. Neither of them worked. Any other ideas or should i go ahead and just get a new one?

If it is still under warranty, flashing it with a legitimate update shouldn't void it. Good luck. 🙂

sadly, its not under warranty, the computer is nearing 6 years old, but i still use it alot. I think i will just buy a new one. they are only 20 bucks on newegg. thanks for your help.
