Bad firmware flash dvd-rom.... now what?

Made a classic mistake when I was flashing the firmware on my Liteon dvd drive: forgot to turn off autoplay. The flash program went into some infinite loop at the end. Had no choice but to close it down. Now thanks to a corrupt firmware, the dvd drive doesn't even power on with the rest of the system. It's totally dead.

Was just wondering if there was any way I could fix the corrupt firmware. Anyone recover a dead dvd-rom before?

The flash program didn't have a backup option. And I can't reflash since it won't power on anymore :(

You could use Mtkwinflash, and download a firmware version, and reflash it again. Check out the CDRfreaks forums for more info. Bad flashes are relatively easy to recover from for drives with Mediatek BIOS chips ;)

Goi, THANK YOU!!!! I never knew utilities like that existed to recover dead drives. I actually had to use the DOS version Mtkflash cause not even the windows version Mtkwinflash recognized my drive. I now have my dvd drive back... sniff, sniff... . thanks again! :D
