So here's the story: Normally, if you want to go downtown Montreal, you take the Metro, 'cause its simply faster and smarter to take it. Well, these two friends of mine don't have their bus pass anymore, so tickets round-trip would cost $9.00 (around that price for a pack of 6-tickets, too), which we didn't have. We only had around $7. So we decide to drive to downtown Montreal instead.

We drive, look all over for a parking, have people honking at us cause my friend driving is cutting them off, and finally find a parking after 20 mins or so. So we end up paying $7 for parking, and meet these two girl friends of his. We hang out with them for a while, then leave. One of the girls comes with us, and we drive up to my friend's grandma, which is a good 10km thru busy city streets. So we're driving, playing music, he's talking with his b!tch, hand on hip, when all of a sudden a sunfire in front of us brakes quickly. I saw it right away, so did my friend next to me, but he didn't brake till it was too late. We were still going 15km/h when we rear-ended him.

Well, luckily there was no damage at all to both cars but christ... he's lucky the driver of the sunfire was a nice guy. We drove our seperate ways after that, and ended up at his grandma's, dropped the girl off at a metro station, and finally drove back to where I live and dropped me off.

I think I lost count of the horns honking, and I can't believe he actually rear-ended someone. Thank god for bumpers...

I think we should have just taken the metro.

Edit:

He was driving a 1991 Honda Accord EX 4dr 5spd

Edit 2:

Thought I'd like to mention he also ran a stop sign a couple times, on top of the cutting off etc.. stalled the car once backing up :D

hah, well I definately put some pressure on him with my friend, but I didn't want to look like an ass in front of the girl

(Also, I didn't want to distract him in case we rear end a SUV going 50km/h or something and die)

Hi. I'm asian, my dad is good at driving, i consider myself a safe and good driver, and my mom and two oldest sisters really suck at driving. They constantly get into minor freakish car accidents which are "never their fault", and/or get beeped at a lot whenever I'm riding with them. Yes they fit the stereotype of bad asian women drivers :) I'm not saying I agree with that stereotype because I don't like stereotypes, but in my families case it's very true. I constantly say to them (well, the sisters not mother) that they suck at driving and no one can 1) adjust the radio 2) drive safely 3) talk on a cell phone 4) make a left turn 5) know where they're going all at the same time, but I guess they are confident. Just tell them, uh i don't feel safe driving with you now give me the keys :)

Maybe in the city. :)
I was biking today in Lasalle to get a haircut (yes, I'd rather bike than take the bus), was at a light, turned green, and was surprised that the trucks/cars yielded and let me go instead of cutting in front of me to turn. Even after I advanced slowly for 5 secs just in case :)

you guys are lucky. Hondas are not known for their ability to stand up in an accident. :Q

Hey all ... I was the other (unfortunate) friend in that Honda Accord. That Mexican should really learn how to drive. He got better at shifting gears, but that really doesn't help when you run stop signs, cut off drivers, tailgate drivers, almost run over pedestrians, and hit other cars in the rear.

I'm glad I'm alive. His driving skills seemed to decrease exponentially as he drove deeper into the city. He had tailgated people outside the city but generally drove almost acceptably. I don't understand why he would tailgate people though... what's the point? Why stay so close to the car in front of you? What if they break suddenly? What if there's an accident, and the person in front smashes into it coming to a complete halt almost instantly, then you have what.. a second or so to react? Not enough time to get out of the way or slow down enough. And when there's no other traffic there certainly isn't any reason to be stuck up behind someone else.

But man, that girl was crazy... wtf? Oh well, suits the mexican well.

how were they sitting hip to hip in a 5 speed? theres a gear shifter and handbrake there...

i have a friend that drives pretty much the same car, can't drive his manual worth anything (which is odd because hes been driving it for 3 years). on the freeway he'll be going real fast, get right up behind someone then slam on the brakes. does it coninually. so one time, he was doing this and another friend in the backseat says, why do you do that. he replies, cuz i drive a manual. so the driver's girlfriend says, what the hell are you talking about, you do it cuz you don't know how to drive!"

hand on hip, actually hand on her hip :)
NOT "hip to hip"

hmm.. he's not that bad of a driver on the expressway but in the city... man. He has these "Powered by honda" seatbelt covers and "Racing" footmats, and "Racer" seats :)

I think the biggest problem is that he has a very limited attention span, and he likes to show off. I was giving him directions in the car and he'd constantly mess them up, like I say "North" and he's like "South?" and so forth. We had to backtrack a few times. Now add two friends and a hot girl, and that makes it worse. I noticed after the girl got in the front passenger seat, what was only mediocre driving turned into horrible driving :Q

I'll give him credit though for not shifting like a grandma anymore and always using turn signals :)

BTW, if any of you remember the "Tempo vs Accord race!" thread, this guy was the driver of the Accord.

That right there is reason enough to yank his license.

<< Hey all ... I was the other (unfortunate) friend in that Honda Accord. That Mexican should really learn how to drive. >>

I agree that he should learn how to drive, but that sounds so racist.

<< He got better at shifting gears, but that really doesn't help when you run stop signs, cut off drivers, tailgate drivers, almost run over pedestrians, and hit other cars in the rear. >>

Does he have a license? You don't ask the driver "Can I see your driver's license?" everytime you get a ride, so it wouldn't be a surprise if he doesn't have one.

<<

My guess is tailgating is done solely on road moron logic that states:

[his car]-x-[car in front]-y-[second car in front]

|s-------------------------------------------------------|t

regular reasoning says velocity=displacement/change in time

road moron reasoning says: Velocity is inversely proportional to x+y, by lowering the sum of x+y, the laws of road moronic fizzix says my speed would increase. Further more speed can be gained by a Type-R sticker, which introduces a dimentional distortion.

<< Why stay so close to the car in front of you? What if they break suddenly? >>

Because he thinks he's super boy and crash won't happen to him, even if it did, it's no different than bumping into a car with a shopping cart ? ;)

<< What if there's an accident, and the person in front smashes into it coming to a complete halt almost instantly, then you have what.. a second or so to react? >>

A SECOND is an extremely generous amount of time in this situation. At 100km/h(a bit over 60mph) it is 27.7m/s(91ft/s). If he stayed behind by one small car distance 2.88m , and given that car in front comes to instantaneous stop, he has exactly 0.1second to BOTH react and come to complete stop.

He's not really Mexican :)

He has a driver's license (Probationary for 2 years which is what we get right after learners), but it took him 3 times to get it. On one of his road tests he got rear ended by a cherokee and totaled the rental car.

I'm not racist at all. For one thing my ex/gf is of a totally different nationality, and for second there's no reason for me to be racist (not brought up with racism in the family nor at school). The deal with me saying "mexican" is kind of an inside joke between all of us, I probably should have pointed that out.
