Bad Day Two Part Thread

PART ONE:

My girlfriend got her PDA wet in the rain and there's some water underneath the screen. The buttons don't work and the stylus just barely works. I think it's toast, but I told her I'd post here just to make sure there wasn't some magical way to fix such a thing. I figure the water has already done the damage; i.e. even if you could get the water out, it would still not work. (It turns on, but does not respond to buttons or stylus). It's an m515 if that helps.

PART TWO:

I'm wondering if any of you know some law, specifically canadian law although I'm sure US law is similar. I had three tenants sign a contract with me a few months ago for a four month stay at the house I'm renting. They each paid a deposit and signed the contract with witnesses. We just downloaded a standard housing contract and modified it to suit our needs. Now one of them is cancelling on me.

I have his contract and his deposit. Obviously I'll be able to keep the deposit, but what legal recourse, if any, do I have in terms of the contract? There was no specific clause in the contract about early termination. But obviously there was a clause to the effect of "agrees to pay x dollars each month". That portion of the contract is clearly violated. What can I do?

my m505 went thru the wash, all i did was take it apart in its 4 or 5 pieces and then blow dry it.... it works fine now

[edit] dont put it back together after the blow drying, let it sit in pieces for like a day at least... water that the blow dryer couldn't hit needs to evaporate... but it will work fine then [/edit]

that's why you ask for last month's rent in addition to the deposit when they sign the lease.

lesson learned.

Agreed; the deposit was too small. I only represent the landlord so I'm not the one actually taking financial loss. Still, I had to ask. 🙂

Thanks... we're looking at the back, I suppose those tiny "glasses" screwdrivers might work to get the screws out?

Uh, not to contract you, but that's a bad idea. A friend wrecked a PDA like that once trying to dry it off after a rain storm got it wet. The screen will curl and/or crack at temps > 180f. So I suggest doing what the other poster suggested and just leave it out to dry for a day or two.

Yeah, the screws are those allen wrench screws, but I just used a small straight and it worked. Even the tip of a dull knife will work... do whatever it takes to get in ! heh.

I know the handspring model stylus' have a built in screwdriver in the stylus. I dunno about the M505 though.
