Bad credit? No flight for you!

There goes another one of our civil liberties, if this crap does not stop soon, everyone will have a damn computer chip embedded in their head so big brother can watch out for terrorists.

I'm not entirely opposed to these type of systems, or personal chips, but I'm not entirely for them either.
On one hand, it really makes it easier to monitor people and catch would be baddies or potential suspects. If your legit and accidnetally blacklisted, it will take some time but you should be able to get it worked out.
On the other hand, they track EVERYONE who goes EVERYWHERE. They know everything about you.

Its certainly a double edged sword, but I think does more to stop criminals then it does to hinder the common man. I hope........

true but if they want to monitor travellers, I hardly think checking their credit history is a good way. What if certain terrorists have good credit history? Or what about the countless people who have no credit history or have poor credit history. This is a very ineffective way. India has a pretty good system (though not full proof) They have soldiers/police with automatic weapons who are outside the airport. You are not allowed to enter the airport at all unless you have a ticket. As soon as you come in, all your baggage is xrayed. Then you check it in, it is xrayed again. Awhile back, they used to have it where before boarding the plane, you had to show the flight crew which luggage was yours (it was all on the ground) Only then they would put the luggage on the plane. This stopped people who would checkin luggage with bombs or whatnot inside and then just leaving the airport.

This has got to be the stupidist thing I've read in a long time. Someone's in bed with a major credit history company and trying to cash in on an obviously huge big time contract.

So if you Fly Delta out of San Jose often for Business it would check your credit history every time? Wouldn't that screw up your ability to get credit because of all the inquiries?

Easy Solution, just don't fly Delta Airlines.

FYI for those that are complaining about credit history checks, I work for one of the big three credit reporting companies. Checking credit history is a good way to check for fraud and other illegal activity to make sure someone is who they say they are. The Patriot Act has also tied us to government regulatory databases that keep track of known criminals and terrorist.

This won't be a case where if you have a credit score of 540 that you will not get on board a plane. They will only check to make sure that you are who you say you are. If it comes back that you do have fraudulent activity on your credit report, they'll likely ask for one or two more pieces of ID to ensure who you are.

That is unjustly intrusive and damaging to passengers.
Do you guys know that everytime your credit report is checked, your rating goes down? At least I think this is true...when I bought my house I was shopping for rates and applied at a lot of places to see what they could offer me and one place said they couldn't offer me a better rate because I had too many recent credit inquiries.

No, these kind of checks would not affect your credit history. Only inquiries that YOU initiate affect your credit history.

I would agree with not needing the credit check part. If they do use that, I'm as good as grounded.

Personally, i don't see this as being a problem. I mean, its going to be something passengers need not worry about, and if it helps those damn lines get shorter, then i'm all for it. Who cares if they check my credit and find i'm half broke. I already bought my ticket, did i not? And certainly if you have no connections to terrorisim, then one should belive you will be safe, and you are going to be 'in the green'.

I agree. I'm all for stopping terrorism, but checking my credit history before I get on a plane? Give me a break!

I would guess that it will be installed and all airlines will be required to use the system by the end of the year.

I also agree that this is extremely intrusive and not necessary whatsoever. These quick fixes are really getting more and more assinine. Flying a plane and someones credit history have absolutely nothing to do with one another, and I'm appalled that they feel the need to snoop into someones personal business to assertain if they are a so-called terrorist, or fit the profile of one. I don't care what they say, it's profiling to the extreme.
