Bad CPU?

Have a ECS K7AMA running a Duron 800. Been trying to get it set up but keep getting R/W error when running powermax on my Maxtor drive.Got blue screens on Win 98. Ran a test on the ram and it came up ok. Disabled L2 and same result. A teck guy said something about possibly a bad processor.
Any ideas?

I would try a different hard drive myself with a fresh load of windows and little else, run it a while
and see if any problems occur.

Maxter just sent me a new HD (RMA)and its doing the same thing. Can't say now that anything was wrong with the first drive. Drive works fine and checks out fine when its connected to another mobo. Don't even have a CD rom connected, DH, floppy, ram, and video card. Connected drive on ide 1 and two. and on a promise 100 card, still get read/write error. swapped sticks out with another machine that works fine. Board and CPU less than two weeks old. Hate to buy another Cpu just to try with out some reason. Got an athlon in by main machine but its a real pain changing fans.

Most likely the CPU is bad but you must test it in another system or put another cpu in the MB to make sure. I know it sucks but it happens .......alot!
