Hp Pavillion a1000
HP/N:5069-8439
System number: EX265AA
Serial Number: MXF63405PP

When I plug my power cord in the light on the power supply and on the front of the computer blink very rapidly. There is also a clicking noise that is coming from the cpu.

When I unplug all of the power cords from the motherboard, the light on the power supply no longer blinks. Which, according to the hp website, means the power supply is most likely not the problem.

Do you guys have any ideas if it is the cpu or maybe the motherboard that has gone? Or maybe some ways to test it?

Thanks for your time guys :)

So without even BOOTING, your cpu/mobo makes noises?

Probably both.

The a1000 is ANCIENT, you know?
Ancient Sempron moley holey.

Finding a new mobo/proc still would probably be a hassle.

Trash everything but HDD's and build a new one.

You cannot really test what's wrong - if it doesn't even post and it makes noises before booting - without new mobo/cpu.

without having access to the same laptop family its really hard to test the parts.
as MisterMac said, keep the hard drive, and junk the laptop. Its not really worth trying to find parts for it.
