ok so since this started last week. I've taken dayquil during the day and nightquil at night every day. But this thing keeps kicking my butt. My coughs are pretty bad and I know that mucus is playing a huge factor. Can anyone recommend something. I dont want to pay a co pay if my doctor is just going to recommend over the counter stuff. I'd rather use the money to buy it.

Thanks!

Your doc honestly probably wont be able to give you anything different unless you get pneumonia. :) You could always supplement with mucinex...

Are you in NY? It's the seasonal cold bug. I've got it along with half my office. It'll go away. If you don't have a fever you don't need the doc.

I got sick once with the same symptoms you have. The doctor checked me out and said it was a sinus infection plus bronchitis. Got some nice, strong antbiotics and I was right as rain in a little over a week.

Try taking something with pseudoephedrine. The nyquil you are taking may not have it, but there is a version that does. Or you could try mucinex or advil cold and sinus. Not sure about your state but in MI you can only get the stuff with pseudoephedrine from behind the Rx counter.

Both your Dr. and your HMO would love you to do the whole Dr. Office dog-and-pony show.

Had something similar for about a week, though the cough wasn't bad. I almost lost my voice for about 3 days too.

When I had similar symptoms, the doctor put his thumb on my cheekbone underneath my eye and pressed. It hurt like *%&^. If it hurts, it is likely a sinus infection, which means it will probably do better with anitbiotics and you should go to the doctor. If not, then keep on treating the symptoms and wait a few more days.

Obligatory:
IANAD; YMMV

Just go to CVS and talk to the pharmacist about some OTC stuff. I would try an expectorant for the mucous and a phenylephrine nasal spray for the congestion. A hot shower and some orange juice never hurts either.

I'm trying to come down with the chest congestion fungus myself, PLUS starting to get what reminds me very much of strep throat. (I'm one of the few oldsters who still has tonsils)
NOT a fun first week of the semester.

Go to the pharmacy in a big overcoat and sunglasses, and ask for 350 boxes of sudafed.

Yeah I'm getting over the chest/nose bug right now too. Interesting that people in other parts of the state have it. Viruses spread amazingly fast!
