Bad Company Vietnam - turn off annoying music?

Does anyone know if there's a way to turn off the annoying music you get in vehicles in Vietnam? It's cool at first, but quickly becomes distracting. Google hasn't helped me yet.

edit: Google helped a little - apparently there's a keybind to change stations (why five stations for a total of nine songs? Don't know) and pressing it six times disables the music. Does anyone know if there's a way to disable it by default?

edit2: Aah found the solution - mark caraudio=0 in gamesettings.ini. Why couldn't this be a menu option?

Yes, it's in the settings.ini file. I forget where but by default you can have it off.

For $10 it is very fun game. p.s Don't stand still in a fps.

$10? I paid $15 the day it came out (?).

And, LOL to the other part; so true. I love Vietnam. I really think it is the best FPS out right now.

Best $4.95 I've spent. I got the 10.00 EA discount from the recycle deal. Is there not just a music volume slider on the control panel when you hit esc?

Actually I think this is a bug but it will do the deed, just switch to "WarTapes" instead of HiFi for your sound.

I don't agree. The level design is just bad.

You must truly be joking! BF: BC2 has the best level design of any FPS to date! In fact, even though the game was not as hyped up as MW2 or CoD in general, the one redeeming aspect of the game that everyone, including CoD fanbois, agrees to is the level design. The character modelling as well as the level design is simply superb in this game. I just wish there was more variety and FAR more blood/gore!

You've clearly not played very many good FPS's. Balance is the most important thing when it comes to multiplayer FPS maps.

The maps look good, sure, but balancing especially on the first part of most of the maps in rush mode is terrible. If you have a few slow loaders, or just get held the first few times, the defending teams can absolutely camp the living hell out of attacking teams very easily.

I think the guy may just mean something different when he says "BC2 has good level design." Maybe he is thinking of how the maps are large, pretty to look at, and have destruction and a lot of detail (given the size of the maps).

However, I agree with you in that when I hear the term level design, I think of balance. Rush mode certainly has some balance issues. A balance issue is when the map has an influence on which team will win in a round.

I play a lot of squad rush because I compete in tournaments, and that gametype makes the outcome of a round completely dependent on which side you are on. Good matchups between teams rarely see a second bomb destroyed on Port Valdez SR, Atacama Desert SR, or Valparaiso SR. This means the defending team wins the round more often than they otherwise would.

I also think Conquest has some imbalances, such as Arica Harbor Conquest. The Russian team has an easier time breaking out of a main base pin than the American team. The Americans have to make their way down a hill with little cover while everyone on the map has a shot at them. Russians can sneak out of the main easier and flank a capture point. This is especially apparent in 8v8 Tournament play.

Also, another thing to consider about level design is whether or not it promotes entertaining gameplay. Even if a Rush map is balanced, and the teams are comparable skill-wise, there are points on maps where it feels as though without fail, if you are the attacker at that stage you might as well be a Russian soldier charging the Germans in "Enemy at the Gates". And if you are the defender, you are waiting around trying to find a balance between scavenging for a single kill, not getting sniped by some guy 3 miles behind the frontlines who couldn't care less about winning, and blowing up random stuff in a feeble attempt to combat the boringness of an over-conservative defender.

Yes you are right. I didn't think of it that way. What I meant was level design in terms of looks, destruction, and overall quality. I didn't really correlate gameplay with level design and I suppose that's important. I used to play War: Final Assault which was like the High Tech level in FEAR but more intense; constant bloodbath and it was just pure mayhem! I love the fast paced, all-out nading, rockets, blasting rage that goes on for example in the first part of Vantage Point in RUSH! ;)

I have a silly question. I only played 1 quick game last night, but it seemed that the music was all instrumental with no singing when I was in the tank. Is that the case with all of the music in the game? BF:V had the full numbers. I ran by another guy's tank and heard vocals, but I couldn't get them in my tank.

...

Most times you play two rounds on a map, so its balanced in that both sides have to deal with the same issues. I suppose in a perfect world the maps would be perfectly symmetrical, but cities/towns/etc in general are not, and I think this is reflected in the map design. And any imbalances can usually be overcome with teamwork. Its not like one side always has a Guns of Navarone like base (which, btw, would be an awesome BF map) that you can't take down.
