My AOpen COM5232 AAH PRO will not eject CDs or DVDs after data has been read from them. For example, after I put a disc in and copy a document to the hard drive, the disc will not eject until the computer is restarted or until the computer is put into stand-by. I've already tried the drive as both Primary and Slave in both IDE 1 & 2. The firmware has been updated.

I've also checked the drive without the IDE cable (just power) and it ejects just fine. It's only after copying files that it locks up.

Is there a software work-around or some setting that I'm missing that is locking the drive? I had this problem and returned the drive for a new one because it looked like it was just a hardware problem. Now, it just appears like either WinXP is locking the drive or maybe the drive is not compatible with the MSI m/b?

Any info you all have would be appreciated.

My system configuration is as follows:

MSI K7N2 Delta-L Motherboard
1 stick of 512MB Corsair PC-3200 DDR SDRAM (in single channel mode)
Athlon 2500+ Barton (1.83 GHz) CPU
Volcano 10 CPU cooler
GeForce2 MX-200 video card with 64MB RAM
Antec SL450 power supply unit
IDE 1: Master drive is Western Digital 120 GB hdd
Slave drive is a Western Digital 40 GB hdd
IDE 2: Master drive is the COM5232
No slave
OS is WinXP Pro with service pack 1

Try installing or updating the ASPI layer software that you can DL from adaptec.com - yes, I know they say it's for SCSI, but it does clear some ATAPI optical drive weirdnesses too. It comes with a utility to see if you already have ASPI software installed and what version it is. Ahead also provides its own ASPI software if you're using the Nero burning program. I don't think it will install if other ASPI software is already installed. But you can get that instead of the Adaptec if you're running Nero.
I would suggest installing some ASPI software. Reboot. Remove the offending drive from Device Manager. Reboot and let t he drive be redetected. Also check for Ghost or hidden devices in Dev Mgr and remove ALL copies of the optical drive (or anything else with duplicates or that isn't actually present) you find before rebooting to redetect.
. If that fails, see if you can test your drive on another machine that is known to be working properly.
