Dammit, it's happened again..

I was installing a game off a CD, then I get a blue screen saying "Unable to write to C:/, data might have been lost, press a key to continue"..so I go on with my things, few hours later I reboot and I get a "one of your hard drives contain bad sectors.ScanDisk needs to run", etc..so ScanDisk runs for about 30 mins, checking for (and fixing apparently) "crossed files on C:/"

at that point I was sure I'd have to format again and run scandisk for about 3 hrs to fix it..but I got to boot back in windows, phew.And here I am now.

This is the 3rd time this has happened, on 2 different hard drives.

specs:

thunderbird 1.0 @ 1150
epox 8kta3 (not the latest BIOS, as it created conflicts for me before)
creative gts 64mb
256mb Infineon pc133
sb live value
dlink ethernet card

drives:

C:/ -> Western Digital Caviar 5400rpm ata33, 6.4gb (IDE1 channel, MASTER)
D:/ -> Maxtor 7200rpm, ata66, 20gb (IDE2 channel, SLAVE)
E:/ -> Yamaha 16/10/40 burner (1.0n firmware) (IDE2 channel, MASTER)

running win98.
11.01 detonator
1.29 4-in-1
directX 8.0a

and I do have a 250W PSU..could that be the cause of the problem? I'm about to get a 300W one..

That's about all the info I can think of right now..

I really don't want to mess up yet another HD because of this problem.

any help appreciated 🙂

Did you trying clocking the system back to 1.0 GHz? I would run it there for a while. Personally, I wouldn't try to run ANY Athlon system with less than a 300w PS bro. 🙂

Good Luck!

Ya, I did for a while..

but you're right about the PS.You think less power could cause errors in the hard drive when transferring data from a CDrom?
