Bad card 5950 Ultra?

I just bought a Gigabyte 5950 from my friend who said the card worked fine. I put it in but as it has graphical errors right away, even in bios. I'm assuming it's a bad card but wanted to see if anyone had some input. Here's the specs of the system I'm running in:

A64 2800+ @ 3000+
MSI K8N Neo platinum
2x160gb hd
Antec 350w psu

I'm running an fx5800 right now with no problems.

It must be. It can't be a power issue if it's even bad during the BIOS, plus you can fun a 5800 leafblower. Tell your friend that frends don't rip each other off!!!

Yeah, in bios there are red blocks all over the place, and when I get to the desktop there are a bunch of pink lines all over the place.

I'm not that big of a n00b? 😛

Besides, the fx line will still work with it not plugged in, they just give you a warning and downclock themselves.

Yeah it could still be power problems. Try a different computer or at least PSU.

I noticed that my NVidia cards take a more power then in 2D mode before the full graphical driver comes up. (of course, once you hit 3D power goes way up but idle computer with graphics is less than idle computer with BIOS text).

I figured it wasn't a power issue, but tried that anyways. Hooked up a 380w antec (same type as my friend was using) just to the video card; left my 350w connected to everything else. Still errors. So looks like it's time for an RMA.

I don't think I have to worry about that, he offered to give me a 9700 pro instead 🙂

Actually considering the price he gave me on this he's probably the one getting ripped off 😕
