Bad Battery Life lately

My Nexus 4's battery has been complete crap lately. Utter garbage and it is frustrating. Hell will freeze over before I could even consider getting more than 2 hours of on screen time without a bump charge. And that is light/medium usage. No videos, music or games. It got down to 60% before I had to go to work, charged it to 87% and in 5 hours I was down to 15% and the ONLY thing I used it for was texting. I check my background apps, my location accuracy is on battery saver, I keep my screen brightness at no more than 50% and I'm extremely lucky for a 1 hour and 45 minutes of screen on time. It never used to be this bad I remember the days of being able to squeeze 3 and even 4 hours in. Hell, I've even done 5 once. This summer I could comfortably get a day in (7am-11pm) but now I'm at 20% by 5 a clock. 6 or 7 on a really good day. I don't want to root and install a bunch of roms or kernals. I need my phone and don't have time to tinker. Thinking about ditching it and downgrading to a moto g. Am I crazy? I have no other complaints with my 4. Performance is still perfect and I can tolerate not having LTE.

What does the battery stats screen say is using your battery the most? Screen is normally the biggest battery user (by quite a lot). What else has a high percentage?

You might want to download Better Battery Stats (need root if already updated to 4.4). Maybe there is a wakelock that causes your phone not deep sleeping.

I know it's considered blasphemy to have a nexus device and not but rooted. BUT....I am not currently rooted....

Better battery stats is worth rooting for. Chances are we won't have a better idea what could be the issue than you already tried, but that app will tell you exactly what is causing the phone from entering deep sleep.

Also. Tonight, I had to restart my phone because it wasn't connecting to my computer correctly. When I turned it off it was at 16%. I imediately turned it back on and when it came on it was at 2% and proceeded to die within 2 minutes. Perhaps a bad battery? Should I try calling Google? I can't really keep going with a defective device much longer. I love this phone and the battery has really been the only issue.
