Hi folks, new to the forum, I just bought an Abit KV8 Pro mobo, AMD 64bit 3000+ CPU and some KingMax PC4000 ram (512mb stick).
I have been trying and trying to overclock my system (CPU) and its hopeless, I updated the BIOS to the latest one with the AGP and PCI locks, I tried swapping out the stock heatsink and fan for a Zalman copper one (the very large round one).
I have adjusted the CPU voltage from its stock 1.5volts all the way up to 1.8volts (at 50C CPU temp). I can't even get it to 210Mhz from 200Mhz, it will boot up windows fine but then Aquamark crashes after running for a few seconds.

Is there anything else I should try? I have been overclocking for years, but this is my first AMD processor and I'm having no luck with it at all. Should I try adjusting memory timings, or other voltages apart from the CPU core voltage?
I bought it a couple of weeks ago at Newegg and I'm thinking of putting it on Ebay and buying another CPU, this one seems hopeless for overclocking.
Have people had more luck with the mobile AMD 64 CPU for overclocking? Any tips?

Thanks

Bart

From what I've read and tried:

1. Reduce your HT multiplier to something like 3x. You've got passive cooling on the chipset.
2. Adjust your memory frequency ratio to 5:6 DDR 333.
3. Increase your FSB (not the right term) and see what happens.

I'm running my 3200+ on a KV8Pro @ 240 FSB, 10x CPU multiplier, with memory frequency at 5:6.

Thanks for the reply, I did some more digging and found more info on the HT ratio online, however I don't remember seeing any option in my Abit BIOS to change the ratio between the "FSB" (200Mhz) and the Hypertransport speed.
I am looking through the user manual PDF right now and the only things I seem to be able to change are the hypertransport voltage and the external clock (200Mhz default).
Does anyone know how I change the hypertransport ratio on an Abit KV8 pro mobo?

Is this version 1.1 of board? Look on board. If not you can't get locks no matter what bios you install.

I have version 1.1 of the board, I checked this as soon as I got the board as I heard the V1.0 could not be locked, thanks.

I think I found it, its on page 3-17 in the user manual, it looks like you can actually set the LDT bus frequency, I can't see any reference to a multiplier, but at least it gives me something to try.
Should I try dropping the LDT frequency from 1Ghz to something lower? Might this give me more stability ot overclock?
I will read through the guide you linked, thanks.
