Bad AGP slot?

I'm working with a Shuttle AN35N Ultra v1.1 that won't display AGP cards that work fine in my Asus A7N8X-Dlx (one 9800pro and two different 9700pros. Pci video cards work fine though. I have the second to latest bios revision (the latest bios doesn't have any fixes pertaining to agp anyhow) and have tried upping the agp voltage, turning 8x agp off ect.

I just installed windows on the machine with a pci video card and an agp card seated in the slot. In device manager, it sees the agp card and reads that it's working properly.

When I boot connected to an agp card, without a pci card present (or with), I get the normal one beep and all the drives and fans spin normally. I'm using an Antec tru 430 watt psu.

There isn't any debris in the slot itself.

Afaik, a current agp card with a nforce2 board should work fine with default bios settings. So what gives? Have I finally encountered a mobo with a bad AGP slot?

Thanks for any and all help.

Have you set "Display Init First" (or something similar) in the BIOS to AGP?
