If the bacon comes from a turkey that wasn't slaughtered the Kosher way, or blessed by a Rabbi or however it works, then it's not Kosher. Halal is a little bit more lenient, you can't eat meat slaughtered by a pagan, but Christians and Jews are a-OK.

a law of kashrut specifies no substitutes i.e. at the risk of not maintaining appearances
another example is you couldn't have soy milk with your hamburger.

Hmm. That's a new one on me, as being brought up as a "Conservative" Jew I've never heard of that. Orthodox, maybe, but Reform or Conservative, I haven't, and like I said before, any religious "rule" or "law" is open to interpretation.
