I thought beef comes from the middle of the US like Iowa+Montana, not CA?
You'd be surprised at the amount of ranches in CA. I was shocked too.

Are those for beef production or dairy though? I know a lot of dairy farmers in CA, and they are all Portuguese for some strange reason, but haven't heard of any beef farmers.
More than 50 percent of the total value of U.S. sales of cattle and calves comes from the top 5 states:
1. Texas
2. Nebraska
3. Kansas
4. California
5. Oklahoma - See more at: http://www.beefusa.org/beefindustrystatistics.aspx#sthash.LtVKerlZ.dpuf

But worth every penny!
ohhh soooo good!
I too love it but when brisket starts getting $9+ per lb, I might as well just buy a ribeye steak. At least ribeye I can eat almost immediately; it just needs to be grilled. Brisket is costing alot of money and then on top of that, it needs a looong time to cook.
Scroll 2/3rds of the way down:how's the cow market looking for 2015?
I used to be like that. Until I tried ribeye as an adult. I would never consider going back to Filet again.Better question: When will FILET steaks get cheaper? I always open up a menu and my jaw drops at their filet prices sometimes.

No don't get me wrong. That's already what I end up doing... is getting the rib eye.
But still, occasionally I wouldn't mind a filet... It's a different flavor. It's a different style. One is fatty. The other is the least fatty. Total apples to oranges, yet both are ridiculously delicious cuts.
But why the fuck is the filet so fucking much? Seems like price gouging sometimes.
This is nonissue for most people unless you're involved in the industry.
A smoke meat with high fat content would taste similar, not the same.
Ground Beef special at a butcher near my work, $0.50/ pound. They sold over 2k pounds in the first 3 days, and expect to go through another 2500 pounds by Saturday. Only 2 pounds / household / day.
holy fuck beef prices. I went to buy some ground beef for chili and the generic ground beef at Ralphs was $5.99/pound!!!!! That's fucking steak territory right there.
The "local" ground beef was something like $8.99/pound.
so starts the prices increases due to CA's mandatory water restrictions.
and bacon has DROPPED in price to $2.49/lb.

Last time I went to the steak house their prices had shot way up since before christmas.

I remember when I had a bit too much Soju in Seoul. I was out with a few friends and we all decided to get something to eat. We went to an all night pork eatery. They put a mound of pork in front of us. I've never seen so much pork! We ate for 3 hours straight!
Nothing but pork, lettuce beer, garlic, and Soju.![]()
