I just cooked up a little leftover bacon from Christmas morning. I think I have a new favorite brand: Grandessa - maple flavored, thick sliced. Sold at Aldis. MMMMMMMmmmmmm

Jenni-O Turkey Bacon

That stuff is nasty. Oscar Meyer turkey bacon is better.

My FAVORITE bacon is cooked...I'm not terribly particular about brand, as long as it's not all fat, is well-smoked, preferrably well-peppered, and NOT rancid.

Any brand but Corn King. That stuff is nasty.

Maple flavored bacon is nice once in a while, but I usually stick with applewood smoked.

I've always enjoyed Black Label. May not be the highest quality stuff but it gets the job done.

Only a pig could take an apple core, celery leaves, orange peels, corn cobs & pigshit and turn it into bacon.

My favorite animal!

My local grocer has some kind of peppered bacon that is sold by the pound in the meat department, awesome!.

The Dr. doesn't have a couple piggies running around the farm that can later be used for bacon, porkchops, ham and pork shoulder? You've got the farm...why not use it to grow bacon too?

Actually I'd think the only one here that'd actually be able to claim that would be the OP.

I did that once. Wayyy too much effort. Our local store has homemade sausage, $1.98 a pound. I can get pork loins for $1.98 a pound (local). I just got some ham for Christmas - that was the first thing to run out. Everyone was raving about how good it was - $1.18 a pound, already cooked, already sliced. And, the bacon I got from the first and probably only pig that I'll ever raise sucked compared to some of the brands that I can purchase. Oh, and after the bacon, sausage, hams, and loins (chops, etc.), most of the rest of the meat was eventually thrown out.

The local natural foods co-op sells large (~2-3" thick) slices vacuum packed into a alternator-sized football shape. It's awesome. If they're out of that, I usually go with the Trader Joe's maple bacon. :awe:

I eat bacon so rarely (though I love it), that every brand is my favorite brand.

Mmmmmm, bacon...

WTF is with all the turkey bacon in this thread? ATOT has failed me. Real pork bacon all the way. I perfer thick cut pork bacon covered with peppercorns. Brand doesn't seem to make much difference to me.

1 oz Pork bacon: 149 Cal, 11 g fat, 3 g water, 11 g protein. See nutrition data here for fried bacon.
1 oz watered down turkey bacon: 107 Cal, 8 g fat, 9 g water, 8 g protein. See nutrition data here for turkey bacon.

The only "healthy" part of turkey bacon is that it is watered down to make the calories and fat negligibly smaller. I'll allow religious reasons or allergies. But, really, don't recommend turkey crap to others just because you can't eat real bacon. If you really need to save calories, eat the bacon and skip a soda (about the same number of calories). Your taste buds and blood sugar will thank you.
