since PC4200 flavor of the ram i want to buy is the same price almost as the PC3700, i was wondering if i shouldn't go for that instead. it says 3.1v in the listing at NewEgg, but i wonder if i had it running at PC3700, 2.8 wouldn't work? (their advertised PC3700 has better timing, lower voltage, so what i'm asking is, if i put the PC4200 at that speed, would it handle the lower voltage and better timings).

No DRAM maker is qualifying RAM at higher than 200 MHz and higher than 2.6V. Everything above is selection by the DIMM makers.

Hence, any DIMM with a fantasy spec above PC3200 will operate just fine at PC3200 specified parameters - 200 MHz, 2.6V. Above that, you're in YMMV territory in _any_ case.
