Backup Websites

Does anyone know of a good program to back up a website via FTP? I would especially like one that can backup file attributes too.. thanks!

You have ftp, what more do you need? Copy the files to the place where you are making a back up, and zip them up or whatever.

I can download all the files the first time around.. but I have scripts that dynamically alters the pages... so every once in a while I have to back up new stuff... newly created files, modified files... etc...

It would take a long time to go through every single files to see if they have been modified...
a backuip program would essentially sync the folders on its own and backup only what has not changed..

that's why i need one... but yes, you're right.. i can use FTP to download the whole site...
but that means I have to do that like every week? that would take too much bandwidth i'm afraid

Hmmm..... I would love a program like that. My website is getting to be about 300+ MB now and most of it is just pictures.

Man if FlashFXP can't do it, I don't know of any that can.

Use:
- Schedule... (load up FlashFXP/connect to FTP server...)
- Load Queue (queue up all files in your web dir)
- When File Exists (it compares file sizes, you can tell it to auto-skip if same)
- On Transfer Complete (quit FlashFXP)

You can probably get it to work if you do some tweaking, but that should be the basis of it. You can also enter custom commands... very robust FTP program.

Alternatively, you can try one of those programs (if they exist - search other threads here) that can download a whole website on multiple levels. It'll just grab every file each time (modi'd or not), but you'd be sleeping while it does it, so why would that matter eh ?

Sounds like a job for cvs or rsync.

I found a program that does it!

WS-FTP Pro has a Syncronization Utility... it does exactly what I wanted... The first time around it will be a pretty big sync.. but after that.. only what gets changed will be backed up! =)
