folks
I need tips for doing backup of 2 video files on my hard disk to DVD.

1. The files are video files with avi extn
2. The Codec used is XVID
3. The files are size 2461368 and 2459734 kb respectively
4.I need to BAckup these files to DVD either as Data or Video

I tried the following:

1. Using nero, tried to write these as DVD Data files into one disk. Nero recommended to use UDF DVD compilation since the file size is beyond 2GB.

2. Using Nero, tried to Write these as DAta DVD using UDF compilation but the total size overshoots the Disk size of 4.7 GB by around 5%. I dont want to use another DVD media just for this

3. Used Nero to burn the files as DVD Video, but the 'Analysing' window ran for hours without any results. I gave up.

Probably I need to reduce the file size by reducing quality or change the type of encoding.
Pl recommend any better options.

DVD Video
Zillions of ways: try searching videohelp.com for "AVI to DVD" tutorials. Found several free All-in-One solutions in the Tools section as well.

I haven't done that in a while, but use to use TMPGEnc.

EDIT: Sorry...just saw the file sizes. How long are the videos (minutes)? You'll need to choose either quality or size. Higher quality will take more space, so you might have to split the vid over two 4.7GB discs. Getting them to fit on a single disc might call for higher compression, meaning vid quality could suffer.

Nero is likely trying to create a DVD standard video file, which would create huge Mpeg2 files. You'll need to do some degree of customizing w/the Mpeg2 compression settings to get your desired result, and the resulting DVD will prob be outside of DVD standard specs (which some players might not be able to read).

DVD Data
Pretty simple: Use VirtualDub to split the file(s) into a couple of 1 GB sections.
