I have a linux desktop.
I want to buy a router but I want it to support out of the box the following:
I want to be able to backup my desktop over wifi to a storage device connected via USB on router.
I currently use rsync and an external hard drive connected directly to my desktop.

Just get a real NAS unit, the USB on most all routers is very, very slow for the thing you want to do.

Any modern router with USB storage capability should work fine. The storage should simply appear on the network and you use that as your backup target. I'd suggest an external drive with network capabilities as another option.

I actually just did this today. I have a router with a hard drive attached via usb. Took a little over 2 hours to backup slightly over 13 GB and validate it. I was using acronis true image 2013.
