Backup my hard drive with just the system

Help me understand something.

I want to work off of 2 drives. 1 for my OS and another for my games and apps.

If my OS gets corrupted or screwed up in some way and I want to do a fresh install, I would have to reinstall the same games and apps again, right?

Because the OS needs to have copies of whatever I install in the registry and main drive?

Basically, yes. Window's Registry keeps records of your installed applications and settings. It might be possible to restore your old System State (which includes the Registry) to Windows. But the generalized answer is you'll have to re-install all of your applications and configure them all over again.

You can also attempt a "Repair Install" of Windows XP. This can work quite well and keeps all your installed programs and settings. It may not work if you have been hit by malware, though.

The EASY way to restore Windows and applications is to keep ongoing backups of your entire system, including the OS.
