Ok, here is what i have:
Workstation A running windows XP
Server B running mandrake 10.0
Server C running HPUX/PALinux (undecided)
4 80 gig hard drives
Two of the 80 gig drives are full of data that I do not want to lose, the other two are empty.
Server C will be an external webserver
Workstation A is my main machine
I want the files on the 80 gig drives to be accessible by both the webserver and my workstation.
I would like a copy of the files to be housed on my workstation so that I can have them if i ever separate it from the network.
I would like to avoid having the webserver read off of my workstation.
Solutions I have come up with:
setting up RAID 1 arrays in server B, running share through samba and mapping it with my machine
Problem: my machine can't be separated from the network without losing access to the files
housing the files on my machine, running rsync backups with cron
Problem: i'm not sure how, if it is possible, to keep the directories synced. i would like to have any files written to the disk on machine B be written to A and vice versa.
So, can anyone come up with some sort of solution for me? i'm open to changing OS on server B. I'd like to keep it a linux system, but I can put windows 2000, 2000 server, XP, or server 2003 on it.
One other thing that would be nice to have: Suppose I take my machine to a separate network and accumulate files. I'd like to be able to remotely sync with the server via SSH or some other method so that files would still be accessible from the webserver. This, however, is not a priority.
